Local Places of Interest

Plas Mawr is in the community of Ysgubor y Coed, containing the vialeg of Eglwysfach, Furnace and Glandyfi. Set in the heart of the Dyfi valley and only a short walk from the RSPB Ynys Hir nature reserve and Dyfi Furnace which was originally constructed around 1755 for smelting iron ore.

Six miles east is Machynlleth the ancient capital of Wales site of Owain Glyndwr's 15th Century Welsh Parliament. It's also home to Y Tabernacle and The museum of modern art (MOMA) Wales, an elegant arts centre.
On the outskirts of the town is the world famous Centre for Alternative Technology which offers a family day out with a green agenda. King Arthur's Labyrinth and the Corris Craft Centre are also nearby.
To the West is Cardigan Bay much of which is designated Heritage Coast. The Dyfi National Nature Reserve with it's spectacular sand dunes at Ynyslas again only six miles from Plas Mawr is an ideal place to spend the day by the Sea or start a walk on the the Ceredigion Coast Path .

A little farther along is the coastal university town of Aberystwyth home to the National Library of Wales.

For those with more energetic tastes, why not try the Machynlleth mountain bike trails, or take a walk up Cadair Idris or Plynlumun Fawr.
